Mission statement

Audio and speech signal processing is the core technology which empowers many information and communication technology (ICT) devices and services, including smartphones, hearing aids, active noise cancallation headsets and speaker verification and speech recognition, AI chatbots, etc. It is a rapidly developing area that requires close collaboration between academia and industry to develop new products and services catering to the needs of society.

The Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE) at PolyU will be responsible for the operation of the “PolyU - Innovation Technology (HK) Audio and Speech Signal Processing Joint Laboratory”.

The establishment of the Laboratory marks an important milestone in the University’s efforts to promote collaboration with the industry in advancing education for the benefit of mankind. Through research and education work at the Laboratory. PolyU aspires to nurture talents in the audio and speech signal processing for the industry and hence make greater contributions to the society.
